Craniosacral Therapy

What is Craniosacral Therapy? Craniosacral therapy is a non-invasive approach which uses 5 grams of pressure to release restrictions of tissue. It enhances the body’s ability to self-correct issues which affect a child’s system. Craniosacral therapy is a semi closed hydraulic system- which produces a continuous rise and fall of fluid pressure

Imagine yourself, sitting on the beach and watching the waves. You will notice the ebb and flow to be consistent and smooth. In general that is how our craniosacral system flows consistent and smooth producing a peaceful regulation. Now imagine a storm on the beach and how the waves slam with ferocity on the surface. When the craniosacral system is influenced by sensory deregulation or dysfunction, it shows that kind of ferocity resulting in a child’s inability to think of ways to motor plan actions or move muscles correctly.

Back to our beach, now imagine swimming in the beach and the pull of the current can drag you under. In craniosacral when a current pulls you in a direction, it is a site of restrictions resulting in your child not being able to transition from one activity to another or crying and whining with change.

Now standing at our beach, this huge tree is blocking the waves, the waves crash on it, around it, underneath, it interrupts the natural ebb and flow.  In the craniosacral system that would be a site of restriction.  A site of restriction affects muscle movement, coordination, focus, eye movements, ect.

The issues that craniosacral therapy can help are:

  • spinal and back issues
  • torticollis
  • digestive and feeding issues
  • poor tongue, cheek and jaw movement
  • irritable bowel movement
  • reflux
  • Plagiocephaly
  • Visual eye restrictions
  • Ear and hearing problems
  • Forceps delivery
  • Dizziness
  • TMJ

The purpose of craniosacral therapy is to remove restriction and restore the body to the natural physiological function and balance needed to perform every day life tasks.
